Check Ups

Spiritual Depth Part 1 (Thoughts on Sermon presented by Pastor Dave)

 Rise and shine!

Check the clock.

Check the mirror.

Keep track of the time!

Keep track of how I look!

Get in the car.

Check the gas gauge!

All is well.

Get online.

Check the bank statement!

Pay the bills.

Keep track of the money!

Check on mom.

Check the mirror.

All is well.

Kid comes home.

Check on homework.

Check on grades!

Check on report card.

Did everyone check everything?

Did everyone track everything?

Check,

check,

check.

Wait, something is missing.

Sitting on the Creator's checkup table...

How's the bible reading...?

How's the prayer life....?

How's the thought life.....?

How's the computer history......?

*the sound of squealing tires*  wait, stop, what?!?

Checking everything all day long, way too busy for the Creator. Way too private to share this information.

But the word says in I John 2:3-6 we must, must, must do checkups on our spiritual health.

Our prescription includes a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge - a bridge that was designed for maximum flexibility.  A bridge that would 'roll with the punches'.   It is anchored solidly into the ground at both ends.  A bridge that is the safest place that you can be because the foundation is so strong; it is a bridge with firm footing.  Winds are more dangerous to a rigid structure than to a flexible one - and this life, it's a windy one.

Take-away:  Have a firm foundation. Very firm.

Perform regular checkups on spiritual life.

Be flexible. Really flexible.

Looking forward to Part 2
